RE: Changing jobs, anyone else make a long commute?

I am in the process of completing a home purchase that will increase my commute from around an hour to an houre and twenty minutes. The increased drive will be much safer and nicer than the current drive and the better quality of life the new area offers will be well worth the extra time. I will still stay in my RV a few nights a week at work and this hepls as well. I could get a job with the same company (but with a different branch owner) only 5 minutes from the new house but my current employer and job of 18 years is well worth staying.

RE: any HVAC guys out there?

It would be very easy to install a zone-system on your existing ductwork and furnace. It would consist of separate thermostats and dampers in each room and when a room is un-occupied, the thermostat would be set low and the damper would shut-off air flow to that room and consequently direct the air to the occupied room when the thermostst in that room is raised. Also, Rinnai makes a wonderful console heater that uses a 3" round vent out of a side-wall and this vent can be located up to 28' away from the heater since the vent is draft induced. Another cheap solution would be a Williams direct-vent heater available at Home Depot or Lowes.

RE: Cousin Gary's/Redding, Ca.

When I worked for Rexhall, Cousin Gary's was one of my dealers. I was very impressed by their business operations and staff. J.C.'s RV's in Pleasanton Calif. is another great dealer. Can't say that for many other dealers I have worked with.

RE: Turn cheap, nasty tasting wine into fine wine

Many of the cheaper wines are "fortified" with different additives to simulate aging in oak, especially if the wine was produced in stainless steel vats. It is these additions that give cheaper wines their "tast" and this gizmo will do nothing to change the taste of fortified wines. Read This about fortified low-end wines.

RE: Back Flow Devices?

Susan, Since I frequent the Central Coast often, please tell me the name of this park so I can avoid it. Thanks!

RE: Air conditioning question?

When I first recieved my 2007 Keystone Springdale, the tape that was used (Keystone's installation) to separate the return air from the supply air inside the plenumn, had peeled away allowing the return and supply air to mix. After re-sealing with foam tape and re-attaching the freeze sensor to the proper location, my air put out much colder temps. Seems to be an issue with Keystone products. BTW, shutting down supply vents on your air could cause increased static pressure in the system, therby reducing air-flow over the evap coil and causing the coil to ice-up.

RE: Mobile RV Repair - So. Calif.

Craig, What type of work do you need done? I would be happy to help for free (30 years service experience) if your RV could be brought to me where I work in the Burbank area. PM me if I can help. Also, I am planning to be down in the Anaheim area at the end of this month.

RE: Adding on demand water pump...

I've added one to all of my PUP's over the years. Simple installation. Just add a "T" barbed fitting at the outlet of the water tank and then re-connect your original line to the faucet-pump and add a new hose from the other outlet(both to the new fitting) to the water pump inlet and a hose from the pump output up to another added T fitting installed in-line with the city water line. This installation will still allow the use of the hand pump and will feed presurized water from the pump via the city-water line. Be sure that the city water inlet has a check-valve so the pump doesn't push water out of the city-water entry. Also add an on-off switch in line with the 12-volt feed to the pump and include an in-line 15-amp fuse.

Neil Diamond at Hollywood Bowl. Amazing!

WOW!!! I have seen many, many concerts from the likes of Elton John, The Eagles, James Taylor, John Denver but my first Neil Diamond concert last night was nothing short of amazing. I guess when you do something for nearly 40 years, ya' get good at it. Diamond has never sounded better and the added ambiance of the Bowl, fine wine and good friends in from England, made for a perfect evening. My only issue now is to decide what artist/concert I have attended has been the best! Enjoy!!

RE: The rudest thing I've seen....In a while...

I had this happen to us at FDR State Park in Georgia. We were checking out that day and had until 1:00 in think before checkout time, and some folks drove by and asked us if we were leaving that day. I said yes...and they said they would like to have our campsite upon leaving. I told them it would probably be another hour, but we would be out by checkout time. They immediately placed their sign on our post. I really didn't think this was inappropriate...but I was rather disturbed that their entire family sat in the empty campsite next to us and watched our every move for the next hour. This is why I really appreciate campgrounds that take reservations and actually enforce checkin and checkout times. I sometimes will call the campground to see if they mind us arriving early if they are not full, but I certainly don't harass the existing campers for their sites. I agree that there are worse things that have happened to us that I would consider as being more "Rude"... Well, since this poster and the OP are from Georgia, could it be that there are more rude people in that state? :B (Unless the rude campers were from NY or Ca!) :B

RE: Problem with furnace...

This model used a standard thread on the thermocouple that the Robertshaw and General gas valves used. Any standard thermocouple should work. Even if it's too long, the excess capillary tubing can be routed outside of the combustion chamber to take up the slack. BTW, thermocouples come in 18, 24, 30, 36 and 48 inch lengths.

When you remember that that dog out in front is pooping on your own private property and not a public campsite and you can now take matters into your own hands w/o having to go to a park ranger. Can we all say Glock? :E :B

RE: Urban Legends

All of the items you pointed out I did read and do know. I do agree with this: "There is no common sense here.". No argument there!!!! Now, lets review and both wonder what in the world this has to do with RVing???? My original reply was a "tongue-in-cheek" comment and not intended to start a debate over idiots and the safe handling of hot beverages. I am finished here.:R

RE: Urban Legends

This legend has been going around for at least 20+ years. Or.........Most likely the same woman that placed a scalding cup of coffee between her legs and then sued McDonalds for her own stupidity. They walk among us!! How would anyone know a cup of coffee is scalding? No one else sells coffee that hot. Food safety classes all warn that it is dangerous to serve anything that hot. McDonald KNEW the coffee was dangerous and THAT is why they lost. Everyone would ahve a different opinion if they received something that they expected was as safe as other similar products only to receive PERMANENT injuries as a result. The lady received third degree burns. That coffee was way more than just hot. Know the facts first. Notice my screen name. Was in the coffee business for many, many years and this story had been covered in the coffee trade magazines. I, my friend, know the facts. The best coffee is brewed at around 200 degrees and most commercial coffee brewers are set for that temperature so McDonalds isn't the only one serving coffee at this temperature. Here is a cut-n-paste from a popular coffee web-site: Water Temperature The perfect temperature to brew coffee is between 195? and 205?F. Since many automatic drip brewers average only 850 watts of power, it’s important to make sure that your brewer’s capacity is at least 1,000 watts as this is required to bring the water temperature up to the proper range. When brewing manually with a French press or filter cone, remove your kettle of boiling water from its heat source and let it sit 2 minutes before pouring over your ground coffee. The "facts" in this case were that the woman lacked common sense. Who in their right mind puts a fresh, hot beverage between your legs when it is served in a flimzy paper or styrofoam cup? "Something they accepted as safe"???? Does this mean that I can go to Home Depot and expect my step ladder to be safe if I misuse it by standing on the top step? Also, I am certified in two local counties (Los Angeles and San Bernardino) for food handling and there are no guidelines that state how hot a beverage should or shouldn't be other than beverages that need to be kept at a certain temperature, such as milk, to keep from spoiling. Food safety courses may suggest that a beverage served at 200 degrees is dangerous because of the boneheads that lack common sense by not properly handling a hot cup of coffee! Yes, McD lowered the serving temperature down to 158 degrees for liability reasons and to protect themselves from all of the idiots that put a cup of coffee between their legs, remove the top (which is what this lady did, therby weakining the strength of the cup opening. Same reason that there are no fewer than 6 safety warnings on my step ladder warning me about common sense things like not leaning the aluminum ladder against electric lines. People's lack of common sense!!! I respectfully suggest that you re-check the facts.
